About the Author
Richard G. Erskine is a clinical psychologist and licensed psychoanalyst. He is the Training Director of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy in New York City and conducts seminars, workshops and training programs in the United States and internationally. He is also a certified clinical transactional analyst and a licensed psychoanalyst who has specialized in psychoanalytic self-psychology and object-relations theory. Richard has developed Integrative Psychotherapy, a theory and set of methods that emphasizes affective, cognitive, behavioral and physiological integration. His books include Beyond Empathy: A Therapy of Contact-in-Relationship (with Jan Moursund and Rebecca Trautmann) and Integrative Psychotherapy: The Art and Science of Relationship (with Jan Moursund).

From the earliest cave drawings and fireside gatherings to current entertainment offerings, stories take a prominent and important seat at the table of civilization. Personal stories, meaning the story of your life, my life, each of our lives as individuals can serve an equal explanatory function. For many psychotherapy models, the life story serves as a foundational element from which grow the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of this moment. In the model of personality and psychotherapy called Transactional Analysis (TA), the life story is called script. This book is a state of the science discourse on script.In my opinion it is a must read for any TA student or analyst, and a highly recommended read for any psychotherapist of any theoretical background. Personally, as a TA therapist and author (No More Drama: A Practical Guide to Healthy Relationships), I love this material.
Depending on how psychologically minded you are, non-professionals could enjoy and appreciate this book.
