This approach explains how perceptual experience and the perceptible presence of the world are of value, helping to account for the diversity of beauties that are available in different historical contexts and why the many faces of beauty allow us to experience the value of the world's perceptible presence.

Carefully examining contemporary debates about art, aesthetics and perception, Beauty and the End of Art presents an original approach. Insights from such diverse thinkers as Immanuel Kant, Hans-Georg Gadamer and Arthur Danto, Alexander Nehamas, Elaine Scarry and Dave Hickey are woven together to reveal how they make good sense if we bring contemporary theory of perception and Wittgensteinian realism into the conversation.

About the Author
Reginald Owen Morris was a British composer and teacher. He was born in York and was educated at Harrow School, New College, Oxford and the Royal College of Music in London, where he subsequently became professor of counterpoint and composition. Morris was considered a brilliant teacher of counterpoint, and wrote a number of influential texts on the subject. Students of Morris included composers Gerald Finzi, Sir Michael Tippett, Constant Lambert, Robin Milford, Anthony Milner, Edmund Rubbra, Bernard Stevens and Jean Coulthard.

This is a terrible text.

Terrible musical excerpts. There is such a large body of early music that could have been authentically used for these examples. It is much more effective and accurate if you "don't listen to what you are playing." The voice leading is at times not intuitive, and the explanations heading each section are lacking in clarity and depth. This publication is a miss for me, and my entire class.

If you know Volume 1 and you learned a lot from it or found it to be a valuable way to learn keyboard harmony- then you will enjoy this. Does not introduce as Mach new material as No. 1 but along the lines of of harmony found in a Bach chorale.

First off, I like the content in this book. It is straight forward and has a good pace.

My major gripe is that to check your answers or access any of the "on-line" resources you must be a registered instructor in the wiley database. Without that, you are SOL.

I think for $150 you should have access to the on-line resources...Seriously, one-hundred and fifty dollars and I can't view the answer keys to the quizzes in the book.

IF this is intended for instructors only it should say INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE on the book and description.

The ever-rapacious Nazis looted staggering quantities of great art and antiques from the nations they occupied. Much of it found its way back to Germany, and following the Allied victory, many thousands of rare (and some priceless) pieces were identified, and returned to the countries from which they had been taken. But not all of the paintings, statues, and archaeological treasures were recovered: Some were taken by Soviet troops and disappeared into Russia. Still others slipped into the black market in western Europe, and were snapped up by wealthy (if unprincipled) collectors. A 1995 symposium at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts brought together European and American investigators and historians to discuss both the the Nazi thefts and the current state of knowledge of the whereabouts of the many still missing treasures. Those papers are reprinted here. While the pieces are detailed, dry, and likely to be of most interest to specialists, there are some extraordinary stories, most prominently the description of the recent rediscovery of ``Priam's treasure,'' excavated by Schliemann at Troy and hidden since WW II in a Russian museum.
