About the Author

Karl Ludvigsen has a distinguished record of accomplishment at senior levels throughout the worldwide motor industry. He has received wide recognition for his work as an editor, journalist, historian and author. Not only has he been employed at senior levels with Ford of Europe, Fiat North America, and General Motors, but he has also been involved in editorial roles with Motor Trend magazine, Auto Age, and Sports Car Illustrated and Car and Driver. Ludvigsen is in demand from the press of North America and Europe as a source of information on industry trends, and he is a frequent speaker at conferences. Currently, Ludvigsen acts as Chairman of Ludvigsen Associates Limited (a consulting company), Managing Director of Euromotor Reports Limited and Director of Ludvigsen Library Limited.

A different engaging biography

Karl has taken on the biography of one of the most influential men in motor sport. The subject has suffered through a blizzard of attempts by other authors just recycling the same old quotes from previous attempts starting from "Lotus, the story of the marque" and "The story of Lotus 1947-1960" by Ian Smith. Doug Nye wrote another book often quoted.
This book dissects the subject into seven facets of the personality and explores each facet with interviews with persons intimate with Chapman. The book has many never before published original sketches by Chapman and photos that are new to readers and haven't been over exposed by less thorough authors.
A great book by a great author of a subject that I thought had just about been thoroughly cooked. Wonderful interviews with Peter Warr, who just recently passed away, capturing valuable insights that would have been lost forever.

This book is a very insightful investigation of a very intelligent and forceful personality. (Colin Chapman)

Colin Chapman was not always right, although many of his associates were of the opinion that anything he said must be accepted without question or comment.

The reality is that when Colin Chapman was correct his creations in the motoring world were so far ahead of his contemporaries that he rightly deserves to be elevated to genius status.

The book is thoroughly researched and logically presented, and this makes the publication a must read for anybody with an interest in the Lotus vehicle brand.

A Balanced Look at Collin Chapman

I devoured this book. I know some of my former colleagues at Lotus who worked with Chapman bristle at books that purport to dissect the man and his motives, but I couldn't find anyone who said anything really biting about Ludvigsen's book. Yes, it's an armchair psychology session to some extent. However, the author doesn't delve deeply into Chapman's public foibles, but seeks so analyze what made him make the choices he did at various stages throughout his life, and why he pursued certain technological paths. Thus, Chapman doesn't come off looking like a heartless bastard (as some have portrayed him) or a massive opportunist. He's a man with failings (some rather large) who is imperfect, but moved the design of racing and road cars along farther and faster than any of his contemporaries. And Ludvigsen shows you how he did it... as well as the many mistakes he made along the way.

As promised, this book is "seriously fun!" The amount of ideas in this book had me jumping up to write things down in a notebook. There are at least 10 things from Mark's book that I put into practice the following day with a program I was leading! Fantastic!

Great read

I've read several of Leon Morris's books, and this one keeps up to his standard. This book while an overview still was very insightful and encouraging. I read through it as a sort of daily devotional, but will continue to use it as a general reference.

Repetitive and Not As Expected

I read the other three of his books and this is the repetition of the other three. The title is misleading. Unless you have not read the other books, then this may be a choice but I may recommend the Enzyme Factor and the Rejuvenation version.

Very interesting, a sincere message

The book is a sincere message from the author about his own experience as a gastroenterologist and about a method he has elaborated. I liked it because there was no "marketing" around it, no forced truths, which I have seen in other similar books (for example in A. Junger Clean Gut). Though no all the recommendations of Dr. Shinya are easy to implemente - at least if you are accostumed to a typical occidental diet - I've been able to incorporate some new habits: I only use brown rice instead of white, I only buy whole grain pasta, and I try to prepare a bit of fresh salad every day. I also found that I can add more fresh fruit adding them in the salads, making some exotic mistures like adding kiwi , grapes , appel or peach to a green salad. I cannot, and do not expect at all, to see immediate benefits, but arguments in the book are contundent. I'm sure even those litte changes in my meals will help my family habits and health, though I'm not looking for miracles.

Wow! Another fascinating book from Dr. Shinya. This book takes his first book, The Enzyme Factor, to another level of understanding. I think that you should just buy both and read them. This book added more detailed information on diet and exercises to follow for repairing and maintaining your body. Again, I feel like I just got a big Biology lesson, one I wish I had gotten 20 years ago. Thank you Dr. Shinya for both books!

There are like 4 or 5 mini books inside

I couldn't even finish this! Contains spoilers! There are like 4 or 5 mini books inside. I got through the first one really easy and I liked it. But then 1/2 way through the 2nd book I got bored and started flipping through the rest of the book. The heroine literally drives me insane, the hero drives me insane. I usually love stepbrother romances, and I love bad boy alpha males even more. But these 2 were so flipping annoying, wavering back and forth about do I love him, do I love her, we can't do this because we are step siblings. The book could have been written in 200 pages not over 400. And I read the last book just to see how the book ended. And after all of that it's not even really a happy ending. They kind of get back together at the end. It just ended and at their parent's wedding, so it wasn't even really like they were step siblings for the entire book. I really hate giving bad reviews but I can't honestly say I would recommend this to my friends.

~EXTREMELY unlikable characters:
• H is a disgusting, unapologetic CHEATER and a nasty �ber manwhore. He flaunts a "floozy" in front of h to hurt her so she will hate him. H sleeps his way through 17+ of the female recruits, including the h.
• h is awful and absolutely annoying. She forgives H way too easily.

~Not even a very good ending!!!

~Book is way too long...470 pages, ugh.

~Writing & editing leave A LOT to be desired.

an ok read, but too long and drawn out

Having served in the US Army, I found the inaccuracies with the ranking and titles annoying as hell as well as some editing issues. I've experienced being among the 1st group of females in basic training within a formerly all male unit/brigade at Ft Dix, and most of Charlie's initial sexual antics were disgusting, outrageous and warranted disciplinary action. For me, the story was too convoluted with the addition of Charlie's father and potential step-sibling situation. Hannah and Charlie were often unlikable to me so I wish their characters had been more developed because they literally kept making the same mistakes over and over again ad naseum. Then at the last 4 pages, they figure their mess out.
