Great to study for PA comps!!!

Denhardt, really did a great job in summarizing the history of the field of public organization theory. As a person who thought theory was just difficult to learn, I found this book incredibly useful. It became my study guide as I prepared for my comprehensive exam.
The book addresses almost every aspect in terms of general studies for PA. This is definitely a to go book for PA beginners and phd students. Denhardt summarizes the main theorists of all time periods, while also providing an extremely useful chapter on linking theory with practice. Would have liked to see more charts or diagrams.

Very good!

In 1978-9 worked through parts of Newman's 'Marine Hydrodynamics', corresponding treatments of lift and drag on a hydrofoil in Landau-Lifshits' Hydrodynamics, and Milne-Thompson's 'Theoretical Aerodynamics'. All these books complement and reenforce each other. Newman, like L-L, works from the equations of hydrodynamics while M-T bases his treatment largely on complex velocity potentials (for very high aspect ratio foils). I have only recently discovered McCormick's book and recommend it heartily as well because of it's emphasis on practicality and simple approximations (a 4-vortex approximation to a wing, e.g., very pretty!), and because he does not hand-wave but instead covers all the derivations thoroughly, if simply. I can understand that some engineers may complain about this book, but Prandtl would not have been one of them, I think.

Useless for school

Had to buy this book for an Aircraft Performance class. This book is straight trash. For all homework assignments I used three books: John Anderson's Fund. of Aerodynamics, James John's Gas Dynamics book, and a Fluid Mechanics book I had from the previous semester. Notice how I didn't use this book for anything beside the problem statements...

Weak Coffee --The Watered Down Version of Hercule Poirot

Dame Agatha created her plays a bit differently than her novels. Based on The Mousetrap and Black Coffee, her plots were simpler, her character development lighter, and her misdirection more obvious. I assume that is because she assumed a different audience for the plays than for the novels.

Nevertheless, the plot is quite elegant in its simplicity and resolution. It is well within the classic English drawing room mystery genre. A secret formula disappears from a safe. The scientist demands its return. He turns the lights off to allow for an anonymous resolution. When the lights come on, he is dead by poison. Hercule Poirot and Hastings arrive in the middle of the incident. Poirot unravels the murder and catches the murderer. The best part of the plot is that one of my favorite techniques is used for the key clue (hint: the same kind of one is in The Hound of the Baskervilles).

My main disappointment was that Poirot does not really flourish as Poirot. He seems watered down, like weakly brewed black coffee. It is as though an imposter is playing his role. The full edge of the arrogance and self-centeredness are not quite there.

A positive side of the novel is that it keeps many of its dramatic elements. You can almost see the action unfolding before your eyes in the same room, as you would in the theater.

If you have read all of the other Agatha Christie novels, then you definitely should read this one.

Worked like a charm..

The instructions in this manual were dead on, and revitalised two of my Dewalt batteries perfectly. I just wished it worked on other brands of batteries, but maybe the process is specific to NICAD batteries, and perhaps the other brands of batteries I tried it on were some other construction? No matter- it says it works on Dewalt batteries, and it certainly does!

My opinion is this . . .this is the kind of stuff that people try, who are not familiar with battery operation or electronics, and end up in the hospital or worse. In my view this is nothing more than a scam, period.

First dedicated and comprehensive book on destination marketing and management

As the author of this book, it is to be expected that I would write a favorable review. However, I wanted to point out why it deserves a good rating. This text is based on my consulting for and training of DMO executives worldwide over several decades, and is not a product of just "book knowledge." The contents have a global focus and are not biased toward one country or region. While there are other books on the market for this subject area, they tend to be edited works from many different authors and are not as well knitted together as a sole-authored text.

The book will be a valuable reference for tourism destination practitioners and should fit well into university classes on destination management or marketing.

I have tried to write this book in an engaging and user-friendly way and include many real-life examples and case studies to illustrate the practical application of all management and marketing concepts and approaches. There are many illustrations and these also help to put across the main points in the text contents.

There are many explanations of the differences between destination marketing and destination management, but this book views destination marketing as a component of destination management and argues for the integration of these two concepts.

A Unique View of the World of Destination Management

It's not news that the travel and tourism industry has been changing at breakneck speed, particularly over the last decade. It is news however, when a source of information comes along that enables us to "hit the refresh button" and update our knowledge on a lot of what's happening out there. That's the feeling I got when reading, Alastair Morrison's new book, "Marketing and Managing Tourism Destinations". What I like about Alastair's work with Belle Consulting is that being based in China provides him with a unique view of global tourism. This shows in his practical perspective and many of his real world case studies.

While this is a textbook, it never gets bogged down in theory. Instead, it is an easy read that explains myriad subjects spanning all aspects of how destination management is planned, implemented and evaluated as well as the programs and operations of DMOs. I like how he addresses and simplifies many of the disruptive elements that are having such a profound influence on the industry. He provides media reports, examples and case studies to keep the focus on practical applications. At 590 pages, it's not an overnight read. But each chapter (and subject) is relatively short and an engrossing read. The combined effect is a solid grounding and refresher in the dynamics of destination management and marketing today.

This is a fantastic book! Dr. Morrison did an excellent job of combining all topics involved in destination marketing and management and made it so real by examples from all over the world. I agree with him that destination marketing is an aspect of destination management and they should be combined for a complete picture. Destination management should be done with a marketing approach for the best results for all stakeholders involved. I am so glad to see that he also has examples on LinkedIn, will certainly check them out periodically...Thank you Dr. Morrison, your intellectual products are great contributions to the academia and the industry and much appreciated!
