We Got Him!

What an amazing documentation of the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Division of the U.S. Army and the lives and struggles of those in uniform during their time in Tikrit, Iraq. Their sacrifice to our nation during the war in Iraq and the historic hunt for Saddam is spelled out in a gripping and touching way. General Raymond T. Odierno (Division Commander at the time) states in his foreword of the book: "...It is an honor for me to introduce this personal memoir by one of the finest battalion commanders with whom I have served. His story captures the human dimension of this awful thing we call war..." This book is a fast read and hard to put down. The author tastefully tells his story without foul language and overly gruesome details - much appreciated! It gives you a true idea of what our soldiers and their families sacrifice while we are going about our business back home oblivious to their hour by hour battles. Steve Russell places you right in the action from the beginning to the very end as they break through the web of families protecting Saddam. Through his words you feel like you are there; walking the streets, hearing the gun fire and bombs and dodging the bullets. You get to know them - you laugh with them, cry with them, cheer with them. The courage and fortitude these soldiers demonstrate is truly inspiring. Even if you know nothing about our military, you will enjoy this book. Steve Russell is a true leader, as a soldier and as a man. A huge thanks to you, Colonel Russell, and your soldiers for your service and sacrifice to our nation!

A Must Read!

I just finished reading this book and enjoyed every second of it. It is very hard to put down. Colonel Russell is a wonderful writer and tells the story with facts and details that make you feel you are right next to him throughout. I have read other books on the capture of Saddam Hussein and this surpasses them all. The men and women of our military are incredible! Their expertise, teamwork and perseverence are extraordinary. Thank you Steve Russell for sharing this story with us. It will stay with me forever.

Great read!!!

As a former member of Alpha Co., 1-22 INF, 4th ID it was an honor to serve under LTCOL Russell. 4th ID crossed into Iraq from Kuwait a month to the day after the war begun. My company, commanded by CPT Mark Stouffer, was located just south of Tikrit in a town called Owja or Al Owja (Saddam Hussein's actual birthplace). On Halloween night 2003 we surrounded the town with concertina wire leaving only one exit and entrance (through us), set up a checkpoint, occupied several observation posts along the town, and for the next two months conducted several operations within it in order to crush the insurgency in and around Tikrit. We became well known on CNN for that very action alone and were highly criticized for it...but it worked. I also took part in guarding the bodies of Saddam's sons after they were killed and transfered back to Tikrit for burial. That is a whole other story unto itself. And let us not forget December 13, 2003...I actually burned my hand before the raid that morning. That too is another story. I must say that those days were grueling for we worked day in and day out without a break for an entire year but it was all worthwile for our hard work and determination paid off in a big way. Going on those raids and constant patrols is an experience I will NEVER forget...nor will I forget working along side TF 20 and 121. What a wonderful and highly professional group of men. I am thankful LTC Russell took the time and effort to tell our story. I am so proud of our accomplishment and am honored to have taken part in history. I am also thankful to have had a great leader such as he to keep us motivated during those trying times. Do yourself a favor and take the time to learn and savor what it was like to literally hunt down Saddam Hussein and his followers.

About the Author

David Colander is Distinguished College Professor at Middlebury College. He has authored, coauthored, or edited over 40 books and over 150 articles on a wide range of economic topics.

He earned his B.A. at Columbia College and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. at Columbia University. He also studied at the University of Birmingham in England and at Wilhelmsburg Gymnasium in Germany. Professor Colander has taught at Columbia University, Vassar College, the University of Miami, and Princeton University as the Kelley Professor of Distinguished Teaching. He has also been a consultant to Time-Life Films, a consultant to Congress, a Brookings Policy Fellow, and Visiting Scholar at Nuffield College, Oxford.

He has been president of both the History of Economic Thought Society and the Eastern Economics Association. He has also served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, The Journal of Economic Education, The Journal of Economic Methodology, The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, The Journal of Socio-Economics, and The Eastern Economic Journal. He has been chair of the AEA Committee on Electronic Publishing, a member of the AEA Committee on Economic Education, and is currently the associate editor for content of the Journal of Economic Education.

He is married to a pediatrician, Patrice. In their spare time, the Colanders designed and built an oak post-and-beam house on a ridge overlooking the Green Mountains to the east and the Adirondacks to the west. The house is located on the site of a former drive-in movie theater. (They replaced the speaker poles with fruit trees and used the I-beams from the screen as support for the second story of the carriage house and the garage.) They now live in both Florida and Vermont.

A Macroeconomics Book About its Author

Going through "Macroeconomics" (tenth edition), I simply can't get past how self-indulgent the book is in respect to its author.

I'm roughly seven chapters into it right now for a class. I don't believe it would overstate to say that the author has referred to himself in the first person at least a dozen times; some with anecdotes relating to macroeconomics and some not seeming to at all. If our course includes a quiz about whether the textbook author personally thinks that GDP calculations are discriminatory, questions involving how he views himself as economic theorist, or on how he waxed philosophic about his own writing style, I'll get an "A" for sure.

Only... (heart sinking) 32 chapters to go.

Good writing style

If you are reading this review, you probably don't have a choice in purchasing this book. Is probably required for a class. This book is okay. It's very clear that the author of the book is a good writer. He writes clearly and his writing style is easy to understand. However, the commercialization that McGraw Hill adds in distracts from the book. They put in lot of extras that "tease" you of their online learning platform that you have to pay for. "You can access the explanation or web lesson for this" lead you to pay. I guess it's the same with most books. If you just took the author's word and took out all the other crap that's in the way, you'd end up with a better book, the publisher would end up with less money though...

The book itself is easy to read and comprehend

I appreciate this book being digital, having my tablet haul around several textbooks and taking up just a few Mb is just plain worth it. The book itself is easy to read and comprehend, the only issue I had was the fact that it resembled my microeconomics book too much. great story plot

The characters in this story are very well defined and I am very impressed with the story plot, how many other alpha's wants to get omega so badly. Some stories can't be expressed in reviews. This is unique and out of the box story for me and my friends.

What did I just read?

I had a totally different understanding of what this book would be about. I knew the omega was caught between two alphas but this was just bad. First off you never really get to know any of the MC's so therefore you can't really pull for them to get together. Second there's no real explanation of why the other alpha wants the omega so badly. Third the omega is so submissive he feels unable to say no, no matter how uncomfortable he is with something, including sexual acts. I don't approve of forced sex in any book. Even if the author tries to make it like the person eventually is turned on. Meh, I won't be finishing this series.

Tense and Sex-soaked

This was pretty sex soaked but it didn't really do it for me. Maybe it's because I'm not big on d/s or voyeurism. I found Lance to be a puzzle. He's so mousy and easily led it's hard to believe that he's supposed be a brilliant scientist. Pack and inter-pack politics are a big part of the story and there is undeniably a lot of tension and drama in this start to the serial. Luckily the pieces are being released close together. I'll follow on to the next one on KU.

Don't Build or Remodel without reading this book!

Since I am the first reviewer of this valuable book, I feel an obligation to give it its due and tell you what you can look forward to. I'm so glad I found it before I started a major remodel, including moving my kitchen - which will result in re-arranging the main living areas!

This book opened my eyes to the many important concepts and details of basic layout design that can easily be overlooked or poorly planned in building a home or remodeling one. Mistakes here can be costly or impossible to fix so I wanted to make sure I don't make any major blunders before my final layout design is complete.

Ch 1: The INTRO
Briefly discusses how homes have changed over the years and points out that bigger is not always better. Quality over quantity is stressed instead of just making huge rooms in McMansions.
In addition to each chapter's main topic, Ch. 1 introduces the 5 common subjects that are discussed for each area of the home at the end of each subsequent chapter:

Ch 2: ENTRANCES & CIRCULATION SPACES
Covers Foyers, entry areas and vertical movement such as stairs and where they should be placed for maximum benefit and minimum horizontal footprint.

Ch 3: LEISURE SPACES
Living rooms & great rooms, media rooms, dining rooms & home gyms are discussed. Traffic flows and furniture arrangements are presented with multiple options and diagrams.

Ch 4: KITCHENS
I consider the kitchen the most important room in the house so I found this to be the most important chapter, by far! The authors identified 13 different very basic kitchen configurations in small, simple block illustrations. They are so easy to grasp that you can quickly see the many possibilities in designing a kitchen. It was an "Aa Ha" moment for me.

The authors discuss the different ways we can cook and they make you think about how you want to entertain - or not - and whether you are a one-person cook or appreciate help and multiple work spaces. They discuss traditional and modern work flows and entertaining in the kitchen while you cook. There are 20 detailed layout diagrams INCLUDING ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS to consider, all the while showing the positives & negatives of each. They even include wheelchair design issues, if that is a concern for you. Cabinets, fixtures, and appliances are included, though briefly. The focus is always on layout.

This covers the 2 basic platforms a house can sit on: concrete slab, and wood platform - another issue to think about if designing from the ground up. Then it delves into plumbing, doors & windows, roof types, fireplaces and stoves.

THE APPENDIXES: have a lot of information involving side issues of green design, wheelchair dimensions, outdoor kitchens, European cabinets, seated & standing work surfaces and desks.

MY SUMMARY:
I believe this is a college textbook - written so anyone can understand and learn the basic concepts a good space-plan designer should consider.

If you are lucky to have hired a top-notch architect or designer, maybe you wouldn't need this book. But I feel even the best architect or designer might not ask the right questions to know exactly what to design for your family. He or she might overlook something that is very important to you. You won't know the possibilities, what you might be missing to make your home the best it can be, if you don't read this book.

This book is in so necessary for me as I build my new small house. The tips and common sense advice is invaluable!

A MUST read for anyone remodeling or building from scratch. Even if one has an architect as one can have input and be part of the different options.

"The Ending of the Words" was written as the result of 20 years of study and practice in Magick and Yoga, and was originally intended for a small number of students. It is a unique publication offering direct insights into the magical system of Aleister Crowley, and an open commentary on esoteric knowledge that has for centuries been kept hidden from the public eye.

About the Author
Oliver St. John is the author of twelve books covering Hermetic and Thelemic philosophy, Qabalah, operative magical Theurgy, the Tarot and astrology. He received initial training through a five-year course in Applied Qabalah written by Gareth Knight and W. E. Butler. In 1996 e.v., he forged a magical link with the Law of Thelema, the ancient Egyptian "93" current that was unearthed through the mediumship of Aleister and Rose Crowley. This led to his foundation of the Hermetic college Ordo Astri in 2000 e.v., and his entry into Kenneth Grant's Typhonian Order (formerly Typhonian OTO) in the same year. Over the course of time, Oliver St. John has worked with Mary Long (author and student of Dion Fortune), Gareth Knight, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki (co-founder of the Servants of the Light Association) and Olivia Robertson (co-founder of the Fellowship of Isis).

Fascinating

A whole lot of Egyptian mythology. If you've never been exposed to Egyptian mythology before, as I hadn't, it's pretty interesting for someone interested in mythology and comparative religion studies as I am. Obviously Crowley was very knowledgeable of same.

Having surveyed the ever growing oeuvre concerning the Book of the Law and Aleister Crowley’s work, since the nineteen eighties, rotten eggs and all, I would like to extend my highest praise for this great work of insight, commentary and appreciation of aspiration by authors Oliver St. John and Sophie di Jorio with their foundational contribution to Thelema, well entitled, The Ending of the Words: The Magical Philosophy of Aleister Crowley.

When one considers that Crowley himself was disappointed with his commentaries to Liber Legis, the book which changed his life, I think that the Great Beast would purr in approval with this fine offering laid at the feet of the Sphinx. The invitation of the ‘Equinox of the Gods’ continues with this fresh read, coming from no expected house, that dares to speak and be silent. The sincerity of the authors, to which it is nice to hear a man and woman’s voices blended together with the voice of over eighty selections of verse from Liber Legis, weaves an inspired commentary sharing the fruit of their independent and practical Hermetic ardors in what is more than just a great introduction serving the Great Work.

This field has always been a battleground, of trouble and controversy, but the authors, without pretense, cover that as gracefully as they dispel those passages from which even Crowley understandably recoiled, by their unique invocation of the principle of Maat, the Egyptian Goddess of Truth and Justice, the woman girt with a sword and holding the scales that weigh one's heart against a feather! At a time flooded with occult imagery, ensnaring rather than liberating, it is important to be able to discern and dispel, which is part of the spiritual war for true liberation which was initiated through Apocalyptic Revelations received and embodied through Crowley and on. Besides situating the received Liber Legis, in its proper context as relates to that hidden primal Egyptian gnosis so reified, this book does a fine job of including such intervening expressions as hidden plainly in the Bible even, as evidenced by the Thelemic essence of “Thy will be done”. So the Apocalypse is that indeed the Thelemic Law of “Do what thou wilt” is a license to discover the truth and genius of one’s own heart where “love under will” is necessary yogic corollary of the 'Law' a path now opened by the record and invitation of this new book which could be a last, as it is a beginning, tied with an Ankh!

Might I note that the book is formatted quite nicely, oversized, with a few pictures and charts, footnotes are present, and a handy glossary which allows the narrative of this concise book to stay on track while providing an easy reference when needed. Affordable, and the color edition might be a treat.

So what do I really think of this book? Well though I could write more, my recommendation stands; have your own relationship and experience, for there really is nothing more for me to say than that which is all summed up in a simple gesture of a child, as Ever Coming Ones we all are, as I put my fore finger to lips, as Harporcates, in the Sign of Silence!

I enjoyed this book greatly. Sometimes passages can be explained in better depth, but the authors do a good job fleshing out many difficult issuing in Thelema. The authors "put it all together" and make the Kafkaesque side of Thelema disappear. Five stars.

No one ever said love was easy. And if they did, they lied.
We’ve all been there. You know, that high school sweetheart or crush. The one who stole your heart, who captured your attention all the time, that kiss that meant the world to you, a touch that would make you melt and two arms that made you feel safe. Feelings like that, you never really get over. Like most high school romances, it all ends in the blink on an eye.
Cammie has loved Dalton since she was fourteen years old. He was the light in her life when she was in her darkest moments. The kisses he would sneak from her calmed her, his touches warmed her heart. Then one day everything changed.
Life moves on and for Cammie, she was never really able to find “the one”. But hey, you live and you learn. As hard as you try to forget and try to move on, that dang heart doesn’t want to listen. Then you find yourself wondering what if as you prepare to attend your ten year high school reunion.
Dalton had become so ingrained, so easily a part of me, that not even surgery could remove him.
Dalton can’t figure out for the life of him where he went wrong with Cammie. One day they are head over heels for each other and then the next day, she refuses to acknowledge his existence. In the blink of an eye they have graduated and are off to college. It is hard to move forward with your life when someone still has your heart.
With his ten year reunion, Dalton is set on making things right with Cammie. No longer a teenage boy, he is determined to keep her in his life this time and he isn’t going down without a fight.

Fate has a funny way of bringing people back into your lives and it is impossible to deny what your heart has always wanted. No relationship is easy, life has a way of testing your limits to the point of no return. For Cammie, the haunting fear of her past put a damper on her happiness with Dalton, especially because of his job. This is something that Cammie struggles with and in the end is her breaking point.
Happily-ever-after seemed to be something that eluded me, and I wondered if it always would

Dalton is over the moon to be reunited with Cammie again. She is all he ever wanted. Things seem to be going great but when an issue at work turns into a disaster. Dalton can see the determination is Cammie’s eyes and he fears that he may have lost her for good this time.
I couldn’t let her go. Not again. Not after reconnecting the way we had. There was a special bond between Cammie and me, something that never quite died with time. It didn’t fade away, lessen, or cease to exist, instead it simmered, waiting for us to come within feet of each other so it could reignite and set us both aflame. I was on fire and I refused to burn alone.

I adored Cammie’s character. She is beautiful, smart and witty. Her best friend Kristy is awesome and tells it like it is. Cammie continuously denied her feelings for Dalton. When she finally comes to terms with the fact she never truly got over him. You know that saying, people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Well for Cammie, it takes her time to see which one Dalton is.
My heart broke for Cammie, the heartache and the fear she has. It seriously paralyzed her from being able to move forward with what she really wanted.
Dalton is just amazing. He knows what he wants and he goes after it. He is sexy, smart and funny. When he finally gets Cammie back in his arms it is like all is right in the world. It is like they were never apart.
Jenn has created two amazing characters with two awesome supporting characters with Kristy and Tucker. These characters aren’t like anything she has written before and I LOVE her for that!
Cammie and Dalton just stole my heart. I felt all of their emotions, the happiness, the loss, the heartache, the fear and excitement, the longing and their love for each other.
Who doesn’t want a second chance at that first amazing love? This was such an emotional and beautifully written book.
Sometimes life was messy and got in the way. But wasn’t that part of the beauty of falling in love and being in a relationship? You figured things out together as you grew, and faced the challenges that life enjoyed the hell out of throwing at you.

Amazing Second Chance at Love!!

OMG! I love J. Sterling The Game Series and Seeing Stars but 10 Years Later grabed my heart in a very good way, read it in less than 2 hours. This book is about Cammie and Dalton getting a second chance at love. We have drama with Dalton's job, smiles with Cammie's job and her friends or co-workers and suspense with Cammie's history with her dad and his death. But above all we have a great love between two persons that has stand more than 10 years. This was a full circle journey. I wished there were an epilogue because I really like to know what happens next, but you could imagine marriage, kids, white picket fence maybe a dog, the hole enchiladas. This is a book that will cause you to remember your high school days. Like Cammie i got my high school sweetheart, thank God I did not wait 10 years. So i like the story very much.

As Cammie Carmichael gears up for her ten year high school reunion, she is going with the hope of seeing one man, Dalton Thomas. He was her big crush, anchor during hard times, and biggest disappointment. Something happened to make her shut him out and they lost their close bond. And after high school he fell off the grid. So she has no idea where is or what he has been doing.

Dalton has his own questions and regrets. And he has one mission for the reunion--talk to Cammie and this time don't leave anything unsaid.

Dalton was such a sweet heart. He was all hot alpha man with the heart of a love sick boy. Cammie was sweet and sassy, but also insecure and fearful. Their chemistry and rapport was so easy. They were both mature enough to ask the questions and get the answers they needed. I completely adored them together. Their best friends Tucker and Kristy added even more humor to the story. So I found myself smiling a lot.

It was told in dual point of view in present with some flashbacks, so we are privy to their beginning, missed communication, and mistakes when they were younger. Oh the drama and strife of young love and missed opportunities. They both now have regrets, but realize how inconsequential they seem in the grand scheme of things. While in high school, they were life altering. But years have gone by and they are set in their lives and careers. But still something is missing.

But there are still issues form her past and in their current situation that could ruin them before they really can get started again. But this time will they let the other one walk way or fight to keep them?

I got totally sucked into this sweet, funny novel with likable characters and an engaging second chance love story. I laughed, swooned, and got frustrated, but was invested in these two long lost loves all along the way. I think everyone can relate to the story line---the one that got away and a chance for a do-over years later.
